Hoosier Commuter Club

Hoosier Commuter Club

If you primarily walk, bike, or use public transit to get to and from the Bloomington campus, you’re eligible to join the Hoosier Commuter Club (HCC).

By joining HCC and giving up (or committing not to purchase) a standard parking permit, you’ll save money, lower your carbon footprint, help reduce traffic congestion, and maybe even improve your health, all while connecting with others in the IU community.

Members of the IU community who register for HCC are also eligible for the Emergency Ride Home program, whether you own a vehicle or not.

Ready to join?

Click “Get Permits” in the IU Parking Portal and follow the prompts.

HCC benefits

When you return your parking pass—or commit not to purchase one—you’ll receive:

  • 24 one-day EM-P permits per year. Receive 12 one-day permits in June (or at the time of enrollment) and 12 in January. Join between January and June and you’ll still receive 12 permits for the semester.
  • Additional optional parking is available. HCC members may purchase additional permits or CrimsonCard Validations. Both options roll over monthly and expire on June 30, and both types offer a limit of 10 per month.
    • One-day permits are $10 and may be used in both surface lots and garages.
    • CrimsonCard validations are $5 and may be used only in gated garages.
  • Emergency Ride Home reimbursement (within 50 miles of campus). Keep your receipt and submit for full reimbursement within 60 days. One short stop allowed, such as picking up a prescription or child.
  • A free HCC hangtag will act as an Evening Permit for parking on campus after 5 p.m.
