Be rewarded for being a sustainable commuter. Join the Hoosier Commuter Club, and you'll join hundreds of IU Bloomington individuals who care about their health and the environment, and who help the university reduce peak-hour commute trips – a critical component in the campus master plan.

You can leave and rejoin HCC as needed. To join, just return your employee-type parking permit to Parking Operations. To leave, just return your HCC permit to Parking Operations, which will enable you to sign up for a new permit using the IU Parking Permit Portal when you’re ready to come back. Explore how you can become an HCC Member

  • Bus, bike, or walk or choose to forego purchasing a parking permit.
  • Be a current full-time faculty or staff, part-time non-student staff, or EM-P permit eligible graduate student.
  • If you have another university parking permit, you will have to return it to the Office of Parking Operations in the Henderson Street Garage when you join HCC.
  • Sign up for a free annual or multi-year Hoosier Commuter Club permit through the IU Parking Portal.

Be committed to utilizing any of the following as your primary mode of transportation to and from campus: walking, biking, or transit.

You’ll also enjoy these benefits:

  • Receive 24, one-day EM-P parking permits per year at no charge, issued bi-annually in June (or at the time of enrollment) and again in January. If enrollment in HCC occurs Jan-Jun, only 12 permits will be provided.
  • Option to purchase additional garage parking validations at $5/day. Limit of 10 purchases in a calendar month. Unused validations will carry forward to future months, but will expire on June 30.
  • Receive an HCC permit that can be used as an Evening parking permit.
  • Emergency Ride Home (ERH). Hail a ride using an a taxi or ride hailing service such as Uber or Lyft. Rides 50 miles or less will be reimbursed in full. Keep your receipt and submit request for reimbursement here within 60 days. You are permitted one side trip during your drive home, such as to fill a prescription or pick up a child from school.
  • An opportunity to win a $50 gift card during the monthly HCC drawing. (HCC members are eligible to win once per semester. All cash and cash equivalents are taxable to the recipient and are required to self-report the prizes on their personal tax return.)
  • Access to private Facebook group for HCC members. Connect with other members and share commute resources.
