Topic: My commute by bike
Title: Getting back on the bike
My husband and I went to Amsterdam for our 1-year anniversary and I was faced with the challenge of experiencing city life on a bicycle. I learned to ride a bike as a kid, but functioning in multiple lanes of bike traffic and navigating the intricacies of bicycle parking garages was completely new to me. I absolutely loved it! When we returned home I borrowed an old bike from my grandmother and rode to work on the weekend, just to plan out a route and see how long it took. That led to the purchase of my trusty Giant Via commuter bike on Craigslist. I was a true fair-weather biker now! A few years later I moved to a position in the heart of campus and it just made sense to break up with my parking pass and start exclusively biking. I can make it from my house to my office door in 11 minutes - it's only 9 minutes on the way home because of the downhills. I've never been able to beat my bike commute time in a car. Not only is my commute more efficient, most days it's just plain fun. There's nothing like hitting the downhills in Dunn's Woods on a pretty fall day!
